Chinese Goose (Anser cygnoides)
Ms. Ping, often called just “Ping” was found next to Interstate 71 in Lodi, Ohio by a snowplow driver. We suspect that she was flying with a Canada Goose flock, but couldn’t keep up with such energetic fliers. When she landed she was lost and wandered onto the highway where she was hit by a car. She had a badly fractured leg that our wonderful veterinarian fitted with a cast. During the six weeks she wore her cast we looked for her owner, but never found one. The break healed perfectly and we ended up rather attached to her. She has been here one year and we are guessing she is young. In the winter she lives in the hospital and helps with office work. In the summer she patrols the grounds, reporting to us frequently on the state of the pond.
